The trouble with watching news on TV is that we are often not given the historical context of the issue being discussed this often distorts the perception of the viewers on the root causes of that particular issue. This snippet from the recent Israel-Lebanon conflict illustrates my point: -



This lack of context in reporting is often used as a way to sway public opinion to be in line to what the owners of the media organization wants you to believe. As an example Fox news owned by Rupert Murdoch is less about reporting real news than about political propaganda as explained by Fox’s ex journalists in this documentary: -
