A while back a new plugin called WordPress Widgets (WPW) was released. This plugin allows WordPress users to easily customize their theme by dragging and dropping widgets into their theme’s sidebar(s).
I’ve updated the Tiga theme theme with support for this plugin.
To install:-
- Download the latest version of the Tiga theme.
- Download and install the ‘Wordpress Widgets’.
- In the Admin page go to ‘Presentation>Sidebar Widgets’ and drag & drop the widgets into the sidebars.
At the time of writing there’s still not many widgets out there yet, but this is definitely the way forward.
I’d like to say thank you to the guys at Automattic, Inc. for developing this fantastic plugin.
Keep up the good work guys!

I believe I have found a bug. If you don’t select at least one widget, the site won’t load.
Could you please email the last widget-free version of tiga to me?
If I disable the WP Widgets plugin, my site won’t load. I’m a moron for not making a backup of my theme prior to upgrading.
A couple things:
Following the the instructions in the WP Widgets readme, I changed tiga.php so that the dynamic sidebar doesn’t us ul and li (which I hate).
The “if” statements in sidebar.php definitely aren’t working for me. If I turn of the plugin or remove all the widgets, my site does not load. I even tried changing the statements to match the readme file.
<?php if ( function_exists('dynamic_sidebar') && dynamic_sidebar("Tiga Left Sidebar") ) : else : ?>My guess is that dynamic_sidebar is being called somewhere other than sidebar.php, which causes a failure to generate HTML when that function is missing.
Hi Funky Dung,
I think you Tigarator database is corrupted, there are significant changes in the database structure used by the Tigarator from version 8.0 to 1.0 so you need to basically do ‘Presentation->Tigarator’ and click on the ‘Delete Options’ button and then choose the Tiga theme as your main theme again.
Try this from a fresh 1.0 install.
Hooray! I have my old sidebars back. Thank you, Shamsul.
Now I’ll just wait until more widgets come out before utilizing that feature. Actually, what I might do is make the appearance of my old sidebar elements no longer an “if”. That way, I can replace each sidebar element with a widget as they’re made available.
Hmm…My site uses a bit of javascript DHTML to hide long lists (like categories). Before the upgrade, it worked. Now it doesn’t. Does anyone know of any part of either Tiga 1.0 or the Widgets plugin that would cause javascript to not load?
This isn’t listed among the “widget-ready themes” on the wordpress website.
How come?
Shamsul…
My Sidebar-Widget WP plugin is activated but I can not see Sidebar-Widget menu under Presentation.
The only available menu options are “Theme”, “Theme Editor” and “Tigarator”.
Please advise a newbie here.
If you are available for YM conference, my ID “ssufian”.
Thank you Shamsul… hope to get a good feedback from you soon.

Sufian,
Do you have the WordPress Sidebar Widget Plugin installed and activated? If yes, then try Deactivating and re-Activating the Widget Plugin.
Sufian
Sorry I can’t help you on that because I’ve not encountered that problem myself. BTW, do tell us if you manage to get it working…

Thank you so much for helping out. I appreciate it
Great theme. Extraordinarily flexible. Thanks so much.
Thanks Johnny,
I’ve look at your site. Wow, nice mods. Very tasteful color changes
Hi Shamsul,
How are you? My name is Kwanza and I am new to blogging (http://www.islandmommy.com). I set up my blog a few months ago, but do not know any code to customize it. Do you do that? If so, what information do you need, how much do you charge and how can I pay you? I also have an Adsense account and would like to make my blog so COOL like YOURS!!! I have a couple podcasts that I would like to feature as well. Please let me know if you can help me. Thank you so much for your wonderful design. I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Kwanza
Tiga theme is great, very easy to use and has just what I need! Check out my website http://ub0r.net
I’ve changed the colors around a bit, but will most likely do it again. Also need to get a new header up.
I hope to see some more great updates for this themes
Thanks!!
Hi Damian,
I have to say I love your color changes on your site, very tasteful (reminds me of Brazil
).
Any suggestions for improventment would be great.

Hey great theme. May get around to changing the header colour but otherwise excellent.
Thank you. Only just started a blog so not really sure about it yet, just very grateful for all the theme creators out there, it makes it much easier for us novices.
Thank you Sid & Bev
Incredible, stupendous, marvelous, revolutionary…
Very nice indeed!
Thanks Frank
I’m using wordpress 2.0.3, PHP 5.1.4 and sidebar widgets 1.0, for some reason I couldn’t get tiga (V1.0.1) to work with widgets to start with.
After some quick hacking I got it to work, below are the changes. Any idea what was wrong?
< php if (has_dynamic_sidebar(’Tiga Left Sidebar’))
> php if (has_dynamic_sidebar(’sidebar-1′))
—
< php dynamic_sidebar(”Tiga Left Sidebar”)
> php dynamic_sidebar(1)
—
< php if (has_dynamic_sidebar(’Tiga Right Sidebar’))
> php if (has_dynamic_sidebar(’sidebar-2′))
—
< php dynamic_sidebar(”Tiga Right Sidebar”)
> php dynamic_sidebar(2); ?>

I am unable to get the widgets plugin to work with this release of the theme. I was originally using tiga-06. I deleted the theme options, deleted the theme directory, uploaded the new release, activated the widgets plugin and arranged the widgets. The page will not use the new widgets, it uses only the defaults that are set for tiga.
As an update to comment 24, I upgraded to WP 2.0.3 and reinstalled everything. The widgets still do not work. I get no error message, only the default sidebar settings.

I had the same problem that you’re describing.
See comment 23, I listed the changes I made in there (all changes were in sidebar.php).
That seemed to get widgets working correctly for me.
I made the change and it sorta kinda works. The widgets are now dynamic and can be moved about.
However, my Links categories are not rendered within the Blogroll and Links boxes in the left sidebar, see http://electbarnhill.com
Hmm…could be an issue with WP 2.0.3.
I’ll probably look into it in a few hours time and do a new release to fix this.
BTW Brad, nice site
I’m trying out your theme and have no issues with widgets but I cannot get the dynamic CSS to work. It will only display properly with the external style sheet check box checked. I get no errors.

This is a test site I have set up prior to moving it to my actual blog. Any help appreciated.
BTW, I think this is a great theme.
I’m encountering some problems with text presentation. It seems that some (’), (-), and spaces are being displayed as code. I do not use visual rich when writng posts as it effects some HTML inserts. Any ideas?

By the way…great template with helpful tools for newbies such as me!
I want to show the last TEN comments, how do I manage that?
Hiya,
Got Tiga working fine, great theme. However I have a few other themes going (mostly Fauna) and have a themeswitcher widget running.
When I select the widgets I want to use in the Tiga theme it overrides the widgets I’ve selected in my other themes and wipes them out. Is this the norm and does it mean I can’t use Tiga alongside Fauna?
Cheers!
Nikki

I tipped some bucks, won’t pay you your next scuba trip but it could buy lunch
A few people have been tipping me for my theme toolkit, I thought it would be justice in return to reward the one who has been providing me about half of my technorati incoming links with the kind mention it Tiga’s footer
What widgets do you have running on this site?
Bonjour Ozh,
Thank you for your generosity, sorry for the late reply, I was in Glasgow for two weeks and didn’t have much chance to check my e-mail. Thanks for developing the theme toolkit, it’s a fantastic piece of software and a great contribution to the wordpress community.
Keep up the great work
Shamsul,
Just wanted to let you know that this is a great theme. Great work and thanks for making it available.
Cheers
Edmund

I’m having a similar problem as this fella, but the fix seems odd.
The original problem was that, as downloaded, Tiga sent out no styles, and the whole page was straight text on the left margin. That’s what I’m seeing on mine (click here for an example). The fix was to change “style.php” to “style.css” in the header file. This works, but…
Now, I’m no theme guru, but this means that, as I peruse the theme, nobody refers to style.php anymore. Is this right? Now when I change things in Tigarator, nothing happens. Changes made in the General section work (pages as menu bar and # of recent posts), but nothing else does; column widths, colors, fonts, nothing. The values are indeed being saved, because when I go back into the Tigarator, I see the changed values, but the blog hasn’t changed.
Incidentally, when I do the suggested executing of style.php in IE, I get (virtually) nothing.; an HTML head with one Meta tag and an empty body (when I do View Source; nothing on the page).
I’m running Tiga 1.01 on WordPress 2.04. Any help would be appreciated.

I understand the benefits of having Tiga create a style.css for me and using it instead, but I can’t get Tiga to do that.

(Blast, sorry for the double posting. Thought I was in another Firefox tab. I’ll turn in my technogeek credentials at the door.)
I fixed it!
I took out the calls to ob_start and and ob_end_flush, essentially turning off output buffering, and voila! That’s the true fix.
Enjoy
Wonderful theme, thanks.
I am pretty new to this…I want to put a header image in…and am confused as how to do that. Could you tell me exactly what I need to put in to do this.
Thanks.
Hi all,
I’m moving all support questions to here.
Thanks to smart001 for creating this.
Let’s see how this goes
